Leap Motion: No more Mouse and Keyboard?

You may have heard of the Leap Motion gadget that will be arriving at Best Buy and onto Asus computers soon.  When I heard about this I immediately pre-ordered one from their website.

If you haven't seen it yet, check it out:

Two things went through my head when I first learned about this. One, I'm all over this: I'm all for anything that can free me from using a mouse, especially something this cool.  Secondly, I started thinking about what this will mean in education and industry.  I posted on the leap motion forum about how great it would be if each student in a classroom had one of these on his or her desk and could take turns controlling something on the class smartboard.  While teaching math, for example, a student could raise his or her hand and could demonstrate how he solved a problem.  And that is just the tip of the proverbial iceburg.  They're already coming out with a bunch of apps and I will be chomping at the bit to start playing with them.

For now, though, I can only just search the net for information: it may be a month or 2 before I hear anything about my pre-order.  I'll post back here as soon as I hear anything.
